This was a fantastic build. Out of the big F1 cars I’ve built so far, I’d probably put it fourth in my favourites, behind the newer McLaren, the Mercedes and the Ferrari, with the Red Bull coming after it.
That sounds like I’m putting it quite far down the list, but that says more about how much I’ve enjoyed this whole collection than anything negative about this set. It was genuinely a really good build, with plenty of mechanical detail, a great shape and that orange-and-blue McLaren colour scheme that looks brilliant once it’s finished.
It’s also a great display piece. I’ve got the big F1 cars up together and I genuinely love looking at them.
The funny thing is, I never watched Formula One before I started building these. Having the cars around got me interested enough to start watching it, and now if there’s a Grand Prix on and I’m not working, I’ll be watching it. I’ve gone from building F1 cars because I liked the models to actually becoming a fan of the sport.
The price makes the whole thing even harder to argue with. For a large 1:8 F1 build with this much presence and mechanical detail, BrickVivid’s pricing is unbelievable. It’s a huge display model for very little money.
So even though this isn’t right at the top of my F1 ranking, I still really enjoyed building it and I’m very happy to have it in the collection.
